Why Play Instead?
Good Afternoon.
I hope this finds you well, if not, I am sending a warm hug!
As you may have seen---
I am offering a listening Playshop on December 9th (on zoom) you can learn more or RSVP HERE
Why a Playshop instead of a Workshop?
I have a lot of curiosity about how language shapes our reality.
How and why language matters.
How words identify us.
And---
The word “work” is all over the place!
We separate it from life, as in work/life balance. As if it somehow sits next to life, instead of in it.
We workout to get or stay healthy.
We work on our relationships.
We work as activists.
We work more than one job.
We work on personal and spiritual growth.
We work on our diets.
We even have breathwork (which I love and find super helpful).
Work is productive. Often consumptive.
It’s become entwined with status and identity: what I do for work, what I do to work out, what I am working on.
I am not saying work isn't important. I am saying, perhaps, it's overused and can feel fatiguing to add another "work" item to our lists.
Play has a different energy.
Play -- not as in recreating, games, or sports. More of a lightheartedness, exploratory, wondering and wandering kind of play.
Play is something I don't do enough of. Especially lately. I have an intensity, a striving to wake up that, perhaps, I am "working" too hard at.
Would shifting into a playful energy open up new pathways?
Can we play about listening together?
Can we transform our relationship to growth and learning through changing language?
Let's give it a go!
Putting play in the title lovingly challenges me to create anew.
Join me on December 9th RSVP.
Until then.
How does listening and using the word "work" shape you?
Listen to the parts of you that may want some play!
Soon,
Carol
P.S. A little poem by Shel S. that will make you smile!
